Some people in the community who are anxious to take in a meal at the recently-closed Roosevelt Tavern have asked when the downtown eatery might open its doors.
In August, I reported that the restaurant was under new ownership and planned to reopen in September.
As of Wednesday, the restaurant remained closed with a sign on the door that stated the business is “temporarily closed and will reopen under new ownership in the very near future.”
The windows of the restaurant were dark and the parking lot, save for few cars, was empty. I knocked on both the front and back doors, but didn’t get an answer.
I called Byron Kehr, the new owner of the tavern, several times but didn’t receive a return call.
Next, I spoke with Stacey Witalec at the state’s liquor control board. She said that the board is still working through paperwork regarding the pending transfer of the restaurant’s liquor license to Kehr.
So far, that’s what I have.
